Chasing Dopamine
Did you know you get a hit of dopamine every time you pick up your phone?
Did you know you get a hit of dopamine every time you click on Facebook, Instagram, or Strava?
Did you know you get a hit of dopamine every time you put anything with sugar or alcohol into your mouth?
Did you know that you keep going back to those same things, over and over again, because you are actually chasing that dopamine hit?
You are a well-oiled machine, you have trained yourself to be even better and more efficient at getting those dopamine hits.
Try leaving your phone out of reach until after lunch today.
You may suddenly find yourself with your phone in your hand before lunch.
Try not eating any sugar or drinking any alcohol today.
Your brain is going to rebel. It's going to keep pushing you until you comply.
It wants you to get those dopamine hits.
Because when you don't, life feels harder. Things can feel more "meh" and less exciting.
Makes sense, right?
But...
Did you know you get a hit of dopamine every time you meditate?
Did you know you get a hit of dopamine every time you complete a task, regardless of how small it is?
Did you know you get a hit of dopamine every time you exercise?
You see, we are all chasing dopamine.
But the beauty of being a human, is you get to decide where you get your dopamine from.
What are you "training" yourself to do really well?
Is it something that grows you and your life?
Or is it something keeping you stagnant?
