I Should

There are instances where these two words are helpful.

When we use them to grow or improve.

But more often, we use them against ourselves.

To show us what we have done wrong in the past, how we are currently doing it wrong, or to fulfill a set of rules we have created for ourselves.

"I should have done that instead."

"I should do that because they are doing it."

"I should go do that."

You get the gist.

We are often so busy pointing out how we are doing it wrong in some way, that we forget to see what we are doing right.

"Should" rarely helps us grow and move us forward.

Notice when you say it to yourself and to others.

Start paying attention to your tone and the thoughts surrounding your "should" statement.

If you are using it as a helpful, forward-moving tool, great, keep it up.

If the tone is negative and you are using it against yourself, that's OK too, but maybe it's time to change that.

The first step is noticing.

Then decide where you want to go from here.
