It’s instinct
When we talk to a friend, we can always see what they have done well, even when they can not.
We are so good at pointing out their accomplishments and showing them how amazing they are.
Our brain is actively searching for their positives during these interactions.
It’s instinctual, it keeps us safe within the clan.
It’s different with ourselves though.
Our brain is actively searching for our negatives.
Making sure we are very aware, for each step of the way, that we are probably doing it wrong, are most likely going to fail and should just stop.
It is actively searching for “danger”.
The danger of trying something new and not being good at it.
The danger of a deadline.
The danger of not fitting in.
It’s instinctual, it is trying to keep us safe.

But we are not in danger.
We are not going to die from embarrassment or failure.
If anything, we would grow from it.
But our instinctual brain doesn’t know that.
It’s job is to react.
Your job is know the difference.
